October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Since 1985, the month of October has been designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a goal of promoting mammography as the most effective weapon in the battle against breast cancer. Each year during October, a variety of events including walks, runs, and fundraisers are organized throughout the United States to promote awareness to this, cause, which has affected so many lives.
The iconic pink ribbon is a symbol for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and many prominent landmarks around the world are illuminated with pink lighting throughout the month of October in observance.
There are many ways for you to get involved with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The obvious ones include volunteering your time or donating to local or national charitable organizations that focus on awareness, research, prevention, and treatment of the disease.
Property Manager Position
I am pleased to announce that the Board has approved Carl Halvorson as the new Landmark Mews Property Manager. Carl recently resigned his seat on the Board and was subsequently nominated to fill the vacant Property Manager’s position. The Board wish to thank Carl for his efforts while filling dual roles as both the Vice President and Acting Property Manager. His commitment and dedication to the community during that time, provided exceptional support and ensured the orderly upkeep and maintenance for the community.
Community News & Updates
The Landmark Mews Board has been advised of several ongoing concerns potentially affecting the community and I wanted to provide a summary/update on those issues.
Unauthorized Individual
It been reported a nonresident has taken up shelter adjacent to the Landmark Mews community or near Landmark Mews Drive. Overlook HOA President confirmed the unauthorized individual living in a camped area on Landmark Mews Drive is being monitored by the Fairfax County Police. The community will be updated once the situation is resolved. Landmark Mews has no action in the matter and if anything occurs involving Landmark Mews community, please report it to the Property Manager via the Landmark Mews website.
Wasp Nest
A wasp nest was reported in a tree on Overlook property boundary near Landmark Mews Drive. Overlook advised us that the wasp nest on Landmark Mews Drive appears to be harmless because of the location in the tree and presents no immediate threat to community members, however, they will continue to monitor and resolve as required.
Vehicle Decals
All Homeowners are required to have a Landmark Mews parking decal on the vehicles. Please submit your request for a decal via the Landmark Mews website by clicking on the Request a Parking Decal icon.
Visitor Parking
The visitor parking policy remains in effect and no changes have occurred to the current policy. The Board will review the visitor parking policy during the next monthly meeting, and if you have any concerns or feedback for the Board to consider, please submit your comments via the Landmark Mews website under comments/feedback.
Hazardous Motor Vehicle Operation
There have been ongoing concerns for illegal car activities (burnouts) at the end of Stevenson Avenue. Please be advised that the Fairfax County Police Department is aware of the illegal traffic/driving activity occurring on that street. They are asking for assistance from the community by reporting anything you see and alerting the police department and contacting Officer Isa Martin at isa.martin@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Lighting Repairs
Lighting in various areas along the Berm and various streetlamps have been replaced with new LED bulbs and light fixtures to resolve the ongoing problems stemming from some underground wiring concerns as well as water intrusion causing electrical shortages. If the test phase works successfully, it’s anticipated the community wide replacement will occur prior to the end of this calendar year. The Board solicits any feedback from the community concerning the lighting fixture appearances, brightness, and functionality. Please feel free to drop comments on the Landmark Mews website. The Property Manager will provide specific locations of replacement lighting fixture at the upcoming Board meeting.
