LANDSCAPING TO START SOON

The landscaping contract with our landscaper, Brightview Services, provides for trimming, mowing and debris blowing services, which will begin during the month of March. The flower beds and mulch portion will occur in early April. Homeowners who previously identified concerns with pesticides and other trimming elements, properties will be excluded as requested and those Homeowners are responsible for the upkeep and maintaining their yards to the community standards.

County Leaders Approve Elimination of Plastic Bags for Yard Waste

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 9th amended the County’s Solid Waste Management ordinance, which now prohibits the use of plastic bags for set out and collection of yard waste. Several neighboring communities in the D.C. Metro Area have already banned the use of plastic bags for yard waste and Fairfax County is the latest to join the list of communities banning and prohibiting the use of plastic bags for set out and collection of yard waste.

Landmark Mews (LMM) predominately employs professional landscaping services for lawn care of all homes, which mostly eliminates the need for homeowners to collect yard waste and are not affected by this change. However, there may be an occasional homeowner to collect yard waste and place out for pick up. If this occurs, LMM’s trash service contractor, Republic Services, provided notice, that the provision prohibits the use of plastic bags for yard waste, and they will not pick the items up for hauling.

Homeowners requiring yard waste items such as grass, leaves, and brush for pick up, must use reusable containers and/or paper yard waste bags. Paper yard waste bags can be obtained from local hardware retailers such as Loews or Home Depot. LMM HOA will verify with Republic Services if there are specific days allowed for yard waste pickups if the collection meets the required standards.
